A friend of mine once said I would never find a MISB
Computron Giftset until I inherited it from him. Well, last
year I obtained one and didn't need my friend to pass away
to obtain it. Finding a MISB Giftset alone is one of the
biggest challenges in normal G1 Transformer collector hunting.
The giftsets were all available in much more limited quantities
than normal release Transformers. Superion and Devastator
were pretty common, but even still finding one of them MISB
is quite difficult. Finding Defensor, Computron, Menasor
or Piranacon is near impossible. This Computron is a great
piece, with some wear to the sides, and corners due to its
large size. The windows were hand cut, and the box right
hand side flap actually opens opposite of how it normally
does. This results in tape going from the right flap onto
the front of the box, which is not very appealing. I don't
know of any other Transformer box that seals this way, but
other Computron Giftsets I've picked up are all normal and
not like this. This may have been a mistake, or a rejected
finished product sample. C8-C8.5 condition box, which depicts
many prototype colored versions of Computron singles on
the box.
My friend purchased a Computron Giftset from a Hasbro rep,
with the same tell-tale production sample markings as this
one.
Note: there may be more points of difference that I have
not discovered.
What makes this a production sample are as follows:
| |
1.
|
Box was handcut, not machine cut |
| |
2. |
Right flap
opens from back, instead of the front, taped across
front of box |
| |
3. |
Factory
sealed tape is different than the normal type used on
Transformers |
This piece was obtained from a private collector. It was
originally planned to be put in the Hasbro Museum, showcasing
every toy made in the Transformers line.
